We strive to create living soil by cultivating an environment rich in biology and diversity. In return, the soil repays our efforts with nutrition for our bodies. OUF does not use any chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. We maintain fertility through the use of interplanting, cover crops, compost, and organic fertilizers like alfalfa meal. Also, while we are not 100% no tillage, we do practice as many no-till techniques as possible on our farm, which allows the soil to maintain populations of macro and microbiology, as well as hold carbon in the soil instead of releasing it to atmosphere. As a small-scale farm, support from our community is absolutely vital. We have been so humbled by the number of people who have told us what they have made from our veggies or how our food has otherwise contributed to their home and their family’s nutrition. We were lucky enough to purchase the first place we would truly call home in 2016, and it came with a garden. From there we found a passion for growing food and a real joy in growing food for other people. We took the knowledge from our years of gardening and spent a season working with the great people at The Green Urban Lunchbox, seeking the knowledge we needed to start our future of farming. From that garden we have expanded, growing our footprint to another lot in the Salt Lake City area as well as the majority of our home property.
